Malware - ad bar embedded on IE9!
I was trying to install PDF splitter tool and realized later that some malware was brought in with it.
When I launch IE9(Win 7), and typed in google.com, at the bottom of the page I was shocked to see the malware embedded! Image attached. How can this happen? A security glitch?

Google Dictionary - pronunciation tool defect
Win 7, IE 9
Go here - http://www.thefreedictionary.com/reticence click the speaker icon as many times - there is pronunciation.
Now go here - http://www.google.com and in the search bar/field enter the "define: career"
click the speaker icon, works only once.
It does not work/repeat pronunciation on refresh or resubmit. To me its a defect, for Google, may be not?

LinkedIn authentication error
The LinkedIn authentication issue has been teasing me for a while now (may be a year or longer), where I supply the password, it rejects the first time and accepts it at the second attempt!
No fat fingering...just the very same entry twice.
Today, minutes earlier, I logged in with the same password from para 1 (above) which worked this time and searched for someone, viewed that profile, on clicking 'Connect' I was prompted a login screen on top of the ribbon! WHYYYY? - so
Bug #1. Now, when I enter the password, login fails, the same working password from first para 1. Safely I clicked 'Home' on the LinkedIn home page (the session and login was still active and the top frame/header/ribbon appeared on the background) and navigated away and played around! -
So Bug #2 or 3 (if I include the first one as 1...it wasn't a repro as regularly I liked). OS: Win 7 IE: 9 LINKEDIN - you can take this bug for free....

MicrosoftStore.com on 2012 TG day
I launched IE9 and navigated to http://www.microsoftstore.com to browse around deals.
This is what I encountered...
I am sure the Engineering and biz team handled this well..I will pass on the info anyways. I have my quality focussed ex-colleagues out there!
Gmail new "Compose" email feature technical glitch
I read this article"http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9234066/Google_integrates_Gmail_cloud_storage_service_Drive?taxonomyId=18"
and tried out the new feature that Google was offering in its Gmail product and guess I landed on a technical glitch or bug!
YAY..!!
I browsed around looking for the "Drive" icon mentioned in the news article and couldn't find it, until I clicked "Try the new email compose feature" that popped at the top of the page, the page refreshed and took me a new look compose email.
The redesigned "Compose email" looks trim and slim and the formatting and other options appears only "on demand or click". Didn't impress me at first, but that's where the "Cloud/Drive" icon or option is!
Anyways, coming to the glitch/bug that I noticed..
1) Enable the new feature to compose email and "reply to email"
2) Attach files, I tried with 1 file and 2 files
3) Once done, hit send
4) The email wouldn't go...it was in "Sending" (at the top of the page) and in parallel Saving (bottom of the page) state for about 5 minutes.
5) I copied the content before refreshing (so that I don't have to retype based on the past experience with Gmail or any web email client when you refresh page)
6)Now on refresh, I was given pop-up options "Leave on page or stay on page", I chose ":eave page" 7) alas..I see my typed in content intact! (a pleasant and welcome change, must needed though...good one Google). I hit send and it worked this time. 8) Issue didn't happen when there was no attach.

When I tried to find the listings for Seattle, I got a php script error and the sorting didn't work initially, then worked with error on the page! FB - you need to hire me..to find these bugs ahead of time or prevent it..

Documenting the quality gaps...
I have been capturing quality gaps that I notice anywhere and everywhere for a while now - be it in a software, a website, process or places I stay. This is my attempt to document them here. I have written or spoken to the corresponding organisation(s) when I see such gaps and have had some success I must say! Examples being - the rotten fruit at a Westin property in Orlando or a mistake in UI Evolution website, announcing on their Walt Disney project win, and few UI issues on apptio site..to name a few!
What do I expect to accomplish though this blog?
To build a better quality environment around us. Everyone is welcome to share their observations. Please log a comment and I shall share my email address to post them here. Also provide evidence with details such as date, time, location and if an online observation - the OS, browser.
